Description

The following application allows determining the resistant capacity of simply-supported columns of open and/or closed thin-walled sections subjected to axial and equivalent geometric imperfections. Geometric imperfections are currently only defined for flexural buckling according to the Eurocodes, this application allows obtaining the imperfection also in the case of torsional and flexural-torsion buckling.

Expected learning outcomes

The objective is to determine the resistant capacity of columns and the equivalent geometric imperfections.

Learning opportunity structure

The geometry of the section, the type of material, the length of the column with fork supports are defined.

The analysis to obtain the equivalent imperfection can be elàstic or plastic. Results units are consistent with inputs units. For more detailed background equations, please refer to the Buckling_Resistance_BACKGROUND_EQUATIONS.pdf .

Quality assurance

The two-level mutual trust-based quality assurance scheme has been adopted:

  • at the university level: Universitat Politècnica de València has applied its internal quality assurance procedures and structures to the proposal of Bucklingresistance open + closed - Virtual Lab it submitted to ENHANCE and to its implementation - the related learning activities,
  • at the Alliance level: the body composed of Education Officers has made decisions regarding the inclusion of Bucklingresistance open + closed - Virtual Lab proposed by Universitat Politècnica de València to the Innovative Learning Campus part of the joint ENHANCE educational offer, based on the compliance with the formal requirements and ENHANCE goals.
