Description

Join our upcoming ENHANCE Compact Course: Industrial Assembly System & Manufacturing Systems Engineering.

This online course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of important concepts and practices in industrial assembly and manufacturing systems engineering. Essential knowledge, including assembly planning and control, manual and automated assembly, company and manufacturing strategy, and design of a production system, will be introduced and explained with industrial use cases.

Please note: For RWTH Master students of General Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Business Administration and Engineering, Automotive Engineering and Transportation, Production Engineering, there is a separate course: „Industrielle Montagesysteme“

All other RWTH students can participate, but need to check with their examination board, whether recognition is possible.

Expected learning outcomes

The course aims to equip you with insights into industrial assembly systems and manufacturing systems engineering, enhancing your understanding of the modern industrial environment.

Prequisites

None

Learning opportunity structure

The course is split in two parts:

1) Industrial Assembly Systems and

2) Manufacturing Systems Engineering.

Part 1) consists of the following topics: General Introduction to Industrial Assembly; Assembly Processes; Feeding Systems and Devices; Manual Assembly; Modular Automated Assembly; Control Technology and Networking; Assembly Layout and Material Flow; Assembly Planning; Assembly-oriented Product Design; Robotics I; Robotics II; Metrology-assisted Assembly.

Each topic is covered with a 10-15 min presentation and slides accordingly.

Part 2) is held by Prof. Tolio from Politecnico di Milano and comprises 3 modules with 30-45 min. presentations:

·         Introduction to Manufacturing Systems Engineering

·         Circular Economy of electric motors

·         A use case study of manufacturing systems engineering

Quality assurance

The two-level mutual trust-based quality assurance scheme has been adopted:

  • at the university level: RWTH Aachen has applied its internal quality assurance procedures and structures to the proposal of Industrial Assembly System & Manufacturing Systems Engineering it submitted to ENHANCE and to its implementation - the related learning activities,
  • at the Alliance level: the body composed of Education Officers has made decisions regarding the inclusion of Industrial Assembly System & Manufacturing Systems Engineering proposed by RWTH Aachen to the Innovative Learning Campus part of the joint ENHANCE educational offer, based on the compliance with the formal requirements and ENHANCE goals.

Learning Assessment

30-question-multiple-choice test. Exam date is TBD--after the lecture period, targeted in the beginning of August/February. No grade is being awarded, just the information on whether passed or failed the exam.

About recognition: Please contact the examination board at your home university to have the credits earned in this course recognized.
